9 DAY SAFARI EXPEDITION

Upon arrival at the JKIA, you will be picked up by Joswan safaris representative and immediately transferred to our hotel for overnight accommodation (bed and breakfast).

Early morning drive to the central highlands of Kenya to explore one of the most fertile and populated areas of Kenya. Enroute you will pass through the vast pineapple plantations of Thika, just outside Nairobi. These plantations represent the chief fruit exports of Kenya.

We arrive at the Serena Mountain Lodge in Mt Kenya National Park in time for a sumptuous lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge while viewing game visiting nearby water hole. There is also the chance to do a nature walk on the lower slopesof the Mt Kenya.

Continue north towards the Laikipia plateau into the hauntingly beautiful desert region of the northern frontier. Samburu National Reserve has abundance of game some of which is not found elsewhere. Included are the reticulated giraffe, the onyx with its long horns, the gravy zebra and the gerenuk oddly on its hind legs to graze on the acacia trees. There is plenty of elephant, lions and many bird species. Vervet monkeys and numerous crocodiles can be viewed by the river bank as you relax on the veranda at the camp.

There is the chance to meet the Samburu people –cousins of the Maasai in their ochre plaited hair and colourful dress as they herd their cattle.

Morning and afternoon game drives inside the reserve in search of superb game viewing.

Arrive here from Samburu in late morning to arrive at this luxury camp situated inside a private game ranch. Your tent will be facing a water hole and salt lick where numerous animals will come for water and salt lick. Mt Kenya rises majestically behind you in the late evening. Often, the mountain is covered by mist leaving the craggy snow peaks of Batian and Lenana. A drive to the chimpanzee sanctuary or a game drive inside the ranch is a hallmark of the richness of this sanctuary.

Through Nyahururu/Thompsons Falls on the slopes of the Aberdares to lake Nakuru in the great rift valley arriving in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive in the lake Nakuru national park to view spectacular wild game including the black rhino, the white rhino and the magnificent flocks of the pink flamingos at the lake shore among other wading birds.

Have an early breakfast and then drive through Maasai country viewing the extinct volcanoes of Suswa and Longonot to arrive in time for lunch at the Mara Serena lodge on the western flanks of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. This reserve is part of the Serengeti plains renowned for the abundance of plain game including the wildebeest and big predators including the lion, the cheetah and the leopard. There large herds of grazers including the elephant, the buffalo, zebra, giraffe and thousands of antelopes such as the Grants gazelle, the Thomson‟s gazelle , the Impala, hartebeest and many more.
